MY INSPIRATION

A close friend and classmate of mine developed ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). ALS is a debilitating progressive neurogenerative disorder that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Lateral identifies the areas in a person’s spinal cord where portions of the nerve cells that signal and control the muscles are located.

Over the course of his illness, he asked me for assistance to deal with the effects and limitations imposed by his condition.

One day, his request was for a device to help him get up from the toilet seat. So, I set myself to develop a lift to assist him in rising from the toilet seat. Over time, the muscles of his arms and hands began to fail him and sanitary assistance became a great necessity. Thus, I incorporated a bidet seat to the toilet lift to help him with the cleaning and drying. He used this unit until his illness made it impossible for him to be mobile at all. He always spoke gratefully about the independence and self-dignity he retained by using this toilet lift chair.

Before long, his young grandson suggested I should make and market the lift chair so others could benefit as his grandfather had. I considered it and Lift by Toilet Aid was born. To date, it has proven helpful to senior citizens, veterans, and people who are permanently or temporarily disabled due to reasons such as accidents, illnesses like my friend’s, and many other conditions.

Lift by Toilet Aid assists the user to lift him/herself from a sitting to a standing position or helps ease their transition from a standing to a sitting position whether the person is of short, average, or tall stature.
